About Us

The SK Lone Star Cup – A Major New Silhouette Championship
The final “Southern Nationals” in Winnsboro, LA was held in 2015 and represented the last of the really great championship matches in the Southern USA. Many of us attending the “Southern Nationals” had traditionally marked the 1st weekend in June on our new calendars and summer vacations revolved around those Winnsboro dates.
Fast forward to late 2023, when Daniel Salazar & Chris Cawthorne had lengthly discussions about filling the void left by the loss of the “Southern Nationals”. The opportunity was there to organize a big new Silhouette Smallbore Championship in the NASSA South Central Region. The city of Houston offered the ideal location and Bayou Rifles Inc. had the facility to fulfill our Vision.
After lengthly conversations with many top shooters in the Southern USA and Northern Mexico, it was confirmed the demand was great and we could be successful in hosting such a major championship. Participation would mostly come from the major silhouette clubs in the USA NASSA Southwest & South Central “Silhouette Corridor”, as well as the numerous silhouette clubs in Northwest & Northeast Mexico.
Discussions with SK Ammunition and the Capstone Precision Group began in early 2024 for a possible major sponsorship. Upon NASSA submitting a formal SK Lone Star Cup Proposal and Letter of Intent, our discussions culminated in August 2024 with SK Ammunition agreeing to be the Title Sponsor for our 2025 Inaugural SK Lone Star Cup. This lead to the very successful 2025 Inaugural SK Lone Star Cup conducted in Houston on June 7-8, 2025.
Planning and preparation for the 2026 SK Lone Star Cup has already commenced. This will be guided by a new 2026 SKLSC Vision & Mission to continuing making this event a memorable one! Help support us by attending so we can make the SKLSC a yearly tradition and further grow our silhouette sport!

Match Information & Cash/Awards Program

The SK Lone Star Cup (SKLSC) Steering & Organizing Committees are committed to building an unprecedented Southern USA/Northern Mexico “International Super Regional Championship”.
The SKLSC course of fire will consist of:
- The SKLSC will be an “All Standard Rifle Championship”. This will support Mexican shooters who wish to bring their Standard Rifles to Houston as there is no Hunting Rifle class in Mexico. Since many Mexican shooters also need to borrow rifles, there will be more silhouette rifles available since many US shooters have Standard Rifles to loan in addition to Hunter Rifles to their Mexican friends.
- Course of fire will be (2) 40-shot Standard Rifle matches on Saturday and (2) 40-shot Standard Rifle matches on Sunday for an aggregate of 160 shots. The 160-shot aggregate will incentivize more US out-of-state and Mexican shooters to show up as Sunday will be a full day of shooting.
- Three-man team matches will also be conducted using only Saturday’s 80 shot aggregate to determine the championship teams in Open, Master, AAA, AA and A classes.
- Smallbore Benchrest Silhouette will follow a similar course of fire as the Silhouette Standard Rifle in that these competitors will shoot on the same relays as the Silhouette Standard Rifle competitors using the same range commands, 15 second ready and 2 1/2 minutes of firing for record.
No singular element in the SKLSC Vision & Mission is more important than increasing the % of juniors traveling to and participating in our championship matches. To achive this goal, the SKLSC Steering Committee is implementing a formal SKLSC Junior Sponsorship Program. A significantelement of our SKLSC Junior Sponsorship Program is the SK Rifle Match Ammo Junior Donation Program.
EVERY JUNIOR ATTENDING THE 2025 SKLSC GOT A BRICK OF SK RIFLE MATCH TO SHOOT OUR MATCH!
The Sk Lone Star Cup Steering Committee will also post the 2026 SKLSC cash and awards criteria as soon as it become available below. It is important to note that it is intended the SK Lone Star Cup will not make any money off of this championship. ALL PROCEEDS & DONATIONS WILL BE PUMPED BACK INTO THE SKLSC CASH & AWARDS PROGRAM, THE PRIZE TABLE, FOOD, TARGET SETTERS AND OTHER MATCH EXPENSES.

Travel Information

We have included Houston travel information that is relevant to making your travel and stay more pleasant for the 2025 SK Lone Star Cup. This includes how to navigate to the Bayou Rifles Addicks Range, Mexico SKLSC Letters of Invitation for Firearms Export, your Houston airport options, hotel & lodging options and links to things to do & shopping in Houston.
There is no better location in the entire Southern US for hosting the SK Lone Star Cup than at Bayou Rifles Inc. in Houston, Texas. Here are the top (5) primary benefits:
- Bayou Rifles Inc. is one of the oldest and largest gun clubs in the Southern US. Bayou Rifles holds many large championship matches in other disciplines and has an established silhouette program. The silhouette range can currently accommodate 96 shooters and 24 benchrest silhouett shooter swith (4) relays and with a bit more investment can expand to 152 total shooters on (4) relays in the future.
- Houston is within the epicenter for silhouette matches in the NASSA South Center Region and regularly draws silhouette shooters for the Texas State Smallbore Silhouette Match from all surrounding Southern US States and Northern Mexico.
- There is plenty of shopping, dining and other things to see and do in Houston to incentivize families to come to the SKLSC. This is in stark contrast to the “Southern Nationals” in Winnsboro, LA.
- For US shooters traveling in from states further away, Houston is easy to fly into and should attract many top shooters to travel to the SKLSC.
- For Mexican shooters, Houston is probably the best, cheapest and easiest US location to travel to and enjoy what it has to offer. This is based on many, many discussions Daniel Salazar and I have had with Mexican shooters.
