FAQ

As a newly established organization, your NASSA Implementation Team frequently receives questions via emails, phone calls, texts and at Championship Matches we attend. This includes topics on how to get started in our sport, how to list your gun club on our website and other common questions.

About Us

Who exactly runs NASSA and what about future governance plans?.

The NASSA Implementation Team, all currently Silhouette shooters, is the driving  force behind NASSA and will serve as an interim means of governance. Our long-term goal is to make NASSA a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. Such a change will require formal NASSA By-Laws, NASSA Code of Ethics, a Board of Directors as well as Functional Managers to oversee specific responsibilities to guide, sustain and grow NASSA.

As a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, all USA-based donations will be tax-deductible. This will help incentivize donations to help cover our fixed annual operating costs and provide additional funding for substantial new initiatives. To read more about NASSA governance, click on the link below:

Why is NASSA limited to only Smallbore Rifle, High Power Rifle, Air Rifle and Lever Action?

NASSA is run solely by Rifle Silhouette volunteers that actively participate in two, three or even four of these rifle disciplines. That is where our priorities and interests lie and where we will invest our precious time and energy to promote and grow these four Rifle Silhouette disciplines.

Is NASSA a sanctioning body for rifle silhouette matches

No, we are not a sanctioning body for Rifle Silhouette matches. The purpose of NASSA is to foster and promote Rifle Silhouette sports throughout Canada, the USA and Mexico as sanctioned by the NRA (USA), the SRAC (Canada) and FEMETI (Mexico). NASSA will achieve this through the promotion of championship & club matches, and the dissemination of information & knowledge for our silhouette shooting community.

How can I join NASSA and does it cost anything?

As a Rifle Silhouette shooter, you can easily enroll as a NASSA Individual Member. We only require you to register on the NASSA Website for log-in purposes. This will also give you access to post on the NASSA Forum. All such individual registration information will be treated confidentially.

If you are a North American shooting club that sponsors Rifle Silhouette matches in High Power, Smallbore, Air Rifle and/or Lever Action, you can also easily enroll as a NASSA Club Member. We are in the process of reaching out to all Rifle Silhouette clubs/associations to include you within our NASSA Regions/Clubs link. To learn more about how to enroll you shooting club in NASSA, see the FAQ question posted in the NASSA Regions/Clubs section below.

Currently, there is no cost associated with joining NASSA. Our current NASSA Business Plan relies on the solicitation of donations to cover operating costs and value-added improvements to NASSA. For more information, click on the link below:

Upcoming Championships

What is NASSA’s definition of a “Championship Match”?

For matches in the USA, a Championship Match is defined as an NRA-sanctioned and registered match where national records can be set. This generally includes National, Regional, State and Memorial-type Championship Matches. For Mexico and Canada, it is similar in that National, Regional/Provincial, and Memorial-type matches sanctioned by FEMETI (Mexico) and SRAC (Canada) would be included in the “Championship Match” category.

How do I get my upcoming “Championship Match” posted that is currently not listed?

You have several different options. Perhaps the fastest way is to post your Championship match and match bulletin/entry form on the NASSA Facebook Group. Another option is posting on the NASSA Forum under the Silhouette Match News/Programs/Results category. You can also speak to your local Regional Director when they are in place as they have a vested interest in promoting your Championship Match within their respective region.

What about club matches in my Region and are they listed anywhere?

Your NASSA Implementation Team is currently working on a process to enable Rifle Silhouette club match directors to list their club matches throughout the calendar year. The beta testing for developing this process will be conducted by the USA South Central Regional Director in the USA South Central Region. Once the process has been vetted, it will be available for other Regions in Canada, USA and Mexico to implement. To follow this process development, clink on the USA South Central Region link below:

Championship Results

How do I get my Championship Match results posted that are currently not listed?

You have several different options. Perhaps the fastest way is to post your Championship Match results on the NASSA Facebook Group. Does NASSA have plans for some sort of “Championship Results Database”?

One of the top long-term priorities for the NASSA Implementation Team is to “catch up” with other emerging shooting disciplines in having a digital means to report all Championship Match results. Our goal is to create a Championship Results Database link utilizing a “Structured Query Language (SQL) Search Engine” for Championship Match results. We also wish to provide shooters with the ability to statistically analyze their match performance over time. To follow this process development, clink on the Championship Results Database link below.

Is NASSA addressing the younger silhouette shooters’ preference for more mobile friendly multi-media platforms?

The answer is yes. We have put a top priority on creating/maintaining a strong NASSA presence on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. This is critical to attract, retain and grow the number of Junior Silhouette Shooters participating in our sport!

The NASSA Implementation Team is also ensuring we optimize the NASSA website formatting for viewing website content on a personal computer, tablet or mobile phone. Some website pages may be more viewer friendly on a laptop due to the volume of content or ease of use such as the “Structured Query Language (SQL) Databases” we have planned for future release.

NASSA Regions/Clubs

What is the purpose of forming NASSA Regions throughout Canada, Mexico and the USA?

The NASSA Implementation Team benchmarked many very successful multi-national non-profit organizations early in our strategic planning process. Virtually all these organizations divided up their overall geographic areas into regions. The ability to delegate responsibilities at a more localized regional level provides many benefits, such as more volunteers into building and sustaining our association. This is critical for non-profit type organizations that rely solely on volunteers to do the heavy lifting. Each NASSA Region will have a Regional Director to build a volunteer force and grow their respective area. For more information on the NASSA Regions, click on the link below:

NASSA Regions

What exactly is the role of a NASSA Regional Director?

The NASSA Regional Directors are the lifeblood of our association, representing each of their respective areas and the interests of their localized Silhouette shooters. Responsibilities of the Regional Directors include the promotion of NASSA, liaison with the NASSA governing body and Silhouette sanctioning bodies, creation of regional information, promotion of regional championships, support of regional Silhouette clubs and the creation/execution of regional initiatives. Wigger Technical Library

What is the reasoning behind the NASSA Blogs & NASSA Articles?

The NASSA Implementation Team has put a high priority on the publication of technical information on rifle silhouette.

The NASSA Blogs link will grow to be a significant literary body of work to benefit our rifle shooting community. We created the six blog categories of Inspiration, The Mental Game, The Physical Game, Rifles & Sights, Ammo & Ballistics, and At the Range to better organized the NASSA technical blog posts.

Can I contribute by writing a technical blog or article?

We are always looking for “subject matter experts” willing to contribute to our NASSA Blog categories of Inspiration, The Mental Game, The Physical Game, Rifles & Sights, Ammo & Ballistics, and At the Range.

Never write an article or blog before? If you draft and submit an article and it is accepted, we will help you write, edit and publish it as an article or in a blog format for you. Give it a try as it can be a very rewarding experience and we will bet you will want to write another one after you begin to receive questions and feedback from other users on the NASSA Forum. Use the Contact Us link below and select the appropriate category for further questions on authoring an article:

What are NASSA’s plans for the Championship Equipment Surveys?

As with the Championships Results Database, our goal for Championship Equipment Surveys is to also create a “Structured Query Language (SQL) Search Engine” to inform the Rifle Silhouette community on what gun and ammo components are being used by the top shooters. Forum

Is the NASSA Forum bi-lingual in both Spanish and English?

The NASSA website represents a multi-national association with two languages, so bi-lingual Spanish/English translation capability was a top priority for the NASSA Implementation Team. Click on the USA or Mexico Flags at the top of each NASSA website page to select the language of your choice.

For the NASSA Forum, we had translation software limitations to consider. The NASSA Implementation Team elected to create duplicate Spanish/English forum categories in the NASSA Forum so all members can post in the language of your choice. If you are bi-lingual, you have the option of posting in both the Spanish and English categories.

How were the NASSA Forum categories picked?

The NASSA Implementation Team benchmarked quite a few “kindred shooting forums”. Based on this work, we structured categories that best organize the types of useful information we anticipated will be posted within the NASSA Forum. Nothing can be more frustrating than a forum where there is poor logic to sort through 1000’s of posts.

We will periodically review the NASSA Forum categories to see if they should be reorganized and/or expanded over time. This will largely be based on reviewing existing posts for any trends or improvements we can make to fulfill the NASSA mission of being the premier source for rifle silhouette information.

Why is NASSA posting links to the NASSA Blogs, NASSA Press Releases and NASSA Regional Updates on the NASSA Forum?

Links to many of the NASSA Blogs are being posted within the NASSA Forum to encourage a question/answer dialogue between the Technical Blog authors and our NASSA Individual Members. We believe this will generate more dialogue than posting readers’ questions directly below the actual blogs as done on many blog sites. Registering/signing in on the NASSA Forum will allow the readers to post their questions/comments.

Why is NASSA also posting links to the NASSA Press Releases and NASSA Regional Updates on the NASSA Forum?

Links to all NASSA Press Releases and NASSA Regional Updates posted in the News and Multimedia pages are being posted within the NASSA Forum to encourage a question/answer dialogue between the NASSA Implementation Team and the NASSA Individual Members. Registering/signing in to the NASSA Forum will allow the readers to post their questions/comments.

Why don’t you have a classified section in the NASSA Forum?

At the present time, the NASSA Implementation Team has elected not to have a classified section before we fully investigate our legal exposure. What makes it a bit more complicated is that NASSA represents the three countries of Mexico, Canada and the USA. We fully realize the benefit of having classifieds to increase traffic on the NASSA Website & Forum. It will take us some time and potential legal fees before we can possibly move on adding a classified section.

Links

Can I get my favorite link listed in the Links webpage that would possibly help others?

Yes you can! The NASSA Implementation Team wants to build up the  Links webpage as a one-stop-shop for linking to other useful websites related to Rifle Silhouette. NASSA only grows stronger if we are the “gateway website” that keeps Silhouette shooters coming back to our NASSA Website.
