The NASSA Implementation Team is pleased to announce the appointment of John Hood as the NASSA USA Southwest Regional Director. John is a long-time rifle silhouette competitive shooter in the Colorado area. This background and his experience in his professional life will add much value to the NASSA organization. John’s is the 5th NASSA USA Regional Director appointment that will make up the (6) NASSA USA Regions. We will continue our focus on filling all the NASSA Regional Director positions throughout Mexico, Canada and the USA as we build the NASSA organization.

What’s Ahead for the NASSA Southwest Region?
The NASSA Implementation Team will be working closely with John regarding many NASSA initiatives that also benefit the US Southwest Region with John making the following statement:
“The Southwest Region has a long history of silhouette shooting and was the real focal point in the development of silhouette in the US. There are several key silhouette clubs here that can help continue the promotion of silhouette shooting now and in the future.”
“My initial goals for the SW Region include expanding the level of information and communication with current silhouette shooters and future participants. We will promote silhouette orientation opportunities for potential new silhouette shooters where they can come out and learn about the sport, without the nervous hesitation of attending a match. Additionally, sharing ideas and success’ with other Regional Directors will aid in the overall growth and sustainability of silhouette.”
About John Hood
John grew up in SW Colorado and participated in a variety of firearms matches and competitions. In the early 1980’s, John heard about a Highpower Rifle Silhouette match in NW New Mexico and soon attended his first match. Between school, work, family and life, silhouette was put on the back burner for several years until time and opportunity presented itself again. John shoots Highpower or Smallbore rifle matches most weekends.
John has Bachelor of Science Degrees in Environmental Biology and Wildlife Biology. He worked for the Colorado Division of Wildlife /Colorado Parks and Wildlife for 35 years as a biologist, game warden and law enforcement training director. John is certified by Colorado as a Law Enforcement Master Firearms Instructor, and is a member of the Attorney General’s Office, Peace Officer Standards and Training Firearms Subject Matter Expert Committee.
